We belong to the Order of Cistercians of the Strict Observance which consists of monasteries of men and women. The Cistercian Order was founded in 1098 and, therefore, has a history stretching back over 900 years.

There is another large body of Cistercians (known as the Cistercian Order of the Common Observance) not be confused with our Order. They exist mainly on mainland Europe and the USA and are involved with schools and the running of parishes.
